National Arbor Day Foundation Poster Contest

2008 Arbor Day Poster Contest—Trees are terrific ... inside and out!

Fifth-grade students across Nebraska can showcase their artistic talents by creating posters reflecting the theme “Trees are Terrific … inside and out!” The annual contest, sponsored nationally by Toyota and in Nebraska by the Nebraska Power Association and Nebraska Forest Service, educates students about the importance of planting and caring for trees. Nebraska is one of 46 states and the District of Columbia that are actively participating this year. Click here to view a printable information sheet about the contest.

The contest gives students the opportunity to be artistic, learn how they can make a difference by planting and caring for trees and participate in a fun, nationwide contest. All Nebraska fifth-grade teachers (public and non-public) and homeschoolers are encouraged to obtain the free contest materials, which include in-depth lesson plans, hands-on activities and contest information, by contacting Rachel Allison at 308-696-6718 or rallison1@unl.edu. Past contest participants are being sent packets. The poster contest is open to all fifth-grade classes in Nebraska. Entries for the statewide competition will be accepted through March 15, 2008.
The winner of Nebraska’s contest will be a finalist in the national competition.

The poster contest represents just one of the many public initiatives created by The National Arbor Day Foundation, which is dedicated to helping people learn about the importance of trees in our lives and our world. To learn more, visit www.arborday.org.
