ReTree Nebraska-ReTree Week

Celebrate fall tree planting during ReTree Nebraska Week!
September 19-26, 2009

ReTree Week calendar or newsroom

Many people don't know that fall is a great time to plant trees in Nebraska. Fall's cooler temperatures and reduced humidity make it less stressful for newly planted trees to establish themselves before winter arrives. If you weren't able to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting, now's your chance!

Join the celebration of fall tree planting by planting a tree in your community or your home landscape during ReTree Nebraska Week. During 2008, eighteen communities participated in ReTree Week while eleven participated in the 'Day of Planting.' Theses communities include: Brownville, Chadron, Columbus, Fremont, Gothenburg, Hastings, Kearney, Lincoln, McCook, Nebraska City, North Platte, Omaha, Plainview, Shelton, Valley, Wahoo, Wayne and Weston. If you'd like to get involved or organize events in your community, let us know about it so we can help you publicize it by posting it on our website. Send an e-mail to retreenebraska@unl.edu letting us know when and where the event will take place.

You can also help to promote fall tree planting in your community by displaying ReTree Nebraska Week posters in a community space or promote the fall planting message on a kiosk in your community. Don't forget to include the ReTree website address (www.retreenebraska.unl.edu) to direct individuals to more information. Click here for a color or black/white printable 8.5x11" poster.

While you're at it, help increase species diversity in your community by planting one of ReTree Nebraska's Nine for 2009, a selection of trees that grow well in Nebraska but are often under-utilized.

If you'll be planting a tree in your home landscape as part of ReTree Nebraska's Day of Planting, please report your planting so we can count it toward the goal of 1 million trees by 2017!

Please check back often as we will be constantly updating this page as we receive information about new events taking place throughout the week!

If you have questions or comments, please e-mail retreenebraska@unl.edu.
