The Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) 2024 Annual Report highlights a year of significant growth and impact through federal funding, innovative partnerships, and expanded community engagement. With major investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, NFS enhanced wildfire prevention, green infrastructure, and forest health across the state. Over 750,000 trees were planted since 2019, including large-scale reforestation efforts in fire-damaged areas. New tree inventories, educational outreach, and community forestry planning helped boost resilience, especially in underserved communities. Programs like “Sawmills in Schools” and bur oak research further illustrate the agency’s commitment to forest restoration, youth involvement, and climate adaptation. The report showcases how NFS leveraged over $1.8 million in grant funding to make Nebraska’s forests more sustainable and its communities better protected and enriched.
