Fire Danger Map
This year, the Nebraska Forest Service partnered with the National Weather Service to address technological gaps in the fire danger map. Over the last few years, the NFS heard from many fire chiefs that the map was a valuable asset for issuing burn permits. However, as technology advanced so did the issue of compatibility.
New mobile devices, differing internet connections, and security features made it challenging to ensure the map was viewable by anyone, anytime. However, we believe we found a fix! The fire map—shared with us by the National Weather Service in Omaha—automatically updates throughout the day and is viewable across devices and internet service providers.
To access the map, just navigate to the NFS homepage and click on the "statewide fire danger" icon in the shortcut bar. We encourage department chiefs, firefighters, and anyone looking for information about burning conditions to access and share this terrific resource.
